STOP PRESS:

260th Anniversary of the Siege of Tournai and the Battle of Fontenoy. Details HERE

Welcome to my new website! If you have been here before you will notice it has been give a facelift. The site now holds the equivalent of over 220 printed pages.

The main reason for starting this site was to enable the layman, and the professional military historian to gain access to some of the lesser-known battles of history, as well as a few of the more familiar, without having to troll through the masses of irrelevant and often misleading information available on the Web.

It is my hope that the battles and battlefields found here will instil a sense of fresh interest for debate and discussion. I also hope that those who are able will search out these battlefields themselves and walk the fields and meadows where once history was played out in such full measure.

The table below lists the main sections, most recent published first. If you would like a printable copy, please contact the author.

If you have enjoyed this site, you may also enjoy John's Military History Pages.

I would like to thank the many enthusiasts who have helped with this site including:

  • Albion Armorers for their permission to use the helmet in the Caradoc article;

  • Jon Townsend for the photograph of the tricorn hats Fontenoy article;

  • Sam Francke for the excellent DeKnop program used to generate some of the buttons and artwork for this site;

  • Many thanks to Prof. Dersch for the excellent Panotools used for generating the interactive panoramic photographs in the Malplaquet article.
